Three Bobcats sign with NFL teams

Kalvin McRae was hoping to hear his name called in the NFL Draft last weekend. That didn't happen so Ohio's all-time rushing leader signed a rookie free agent contract with the the Kansas City Chiefs. McRae was one of three Bobcats to sign with an NFL team. Safety Todd Koenig was inked by Cleveland and long snapper Ryan Senser was signed by New Orleans.

McRae will go to camp battling with other running backs for playing time behind the Chiefs' superstar running back Larry Johnson. Koenig, who opened eyes with impressive 40-yard dash times leading up to the draft, will try to land a spot with the Browns. The always reliable Senser is hoping to land a long snapping gig with the Saints.

Cohen played in every game during his Ohio career and was a starter for the last 37 games.

White edges Green in Spring Game

A late 42-yard touchdown pass from Brian Sweeny to Robbie Spencer lifted the White team to a 20-14 win over the Green team in the annual Spring Game at Peden Stadium Saturday afternoon. But most noteworthy was the performance of junior college transfer quarterback Boo Jackson who completed 16 of 20 passes for 190 yards. After a couple of early interceptions, incumbent QB Theo Scott settled down to complete seven of 12 passes for 102 yards. Junior Brandon Jones also looked impressive connecting on seven of 11 passes for one TD and one interception.

Many of the defensive starters sat out the scrimmage due to injury. Safety Donovan Fletcher led the D with a team-high seven tackles and two interceptions. The defense tallied seven sacks on the... <Read More>

Special bobcatattack.com edition tee shirt supporting the Dan Lowe Memorial Scholarship Fund. Order Your Shirt Today!
In 1999, regular BobcatAttack.com poster Tim Burke created a tee shirt as a result of a lawsuit Ohio State filed against Ohio University for trade marking the name "Ohio" in relation to use in college athletics. The shirt featured the words "We are OHIO" on the front and "You are STATE" on the back, playing off of how Ohio State and their fans often forget the "state" part of their university's name while chanting, spelling things on their field, and naming athletic venues.

With the two schools meeting on the gridiron again this year, the battle of Ohio might flair up again. In response to users of BobcatAttack.com's message board discussing funny signs and tee shirts related to the game, College Book Store in Athens has produced a replica of Burke's original homemade shirt.

However, more importantly, on September 6th (day of the Ohio/Ohio State game) College Book Store will donate $2 for every shirt sold to the Ohio University Foundation's Dan Lowe Memorial Scholarship Fund on behalf of BobcatAttack.com and the Ohio University O-zone.

Follow the links below for more information and to order your shirt today!

Bobcat fans excited about this season's match-up in Columbus with the Ohio State Buckeyes apparently won't have to wait much longer for another trip to the Horseshoe.

Sources tell BobcatAttack.com that Ohio is close to signing a deal that would have the Bobcats play the Buckeyes two additional times in the next four years, potentially in 2010 and 2011.

Ohio Director of Media Relations Jason Corriher said a deal is in the works, but nothing has been finalized.

"I think it's fair to say that discussions are ongoing to firm up this agreement between the two schools," said Corriher.

Prior to this season, the schools have met on the gridiron only once in the past 106 years and only five times since 1899. In 1999, the last meeting, the Jim... <Read More>

Ohio Football Signs 20

In his fourth recruiting class at Ohio, Frank Solich announced the signing of 20 players to the Bobcat football program. 16 of the 20 come to Athens via high school and four are junior college players. While it takes a couple of years to uncover the true gems of a recruiting class, a couple of the signees stand out.

Quarterback Boo Jackson, a transfer from a California junior college, is highly regarded by the scouting services. He is expected to compete for the starting job at that spot. Defensive end Tremayne Scott spurned offers from Kansas and Louisville while wide receiver Barney Bussey chose Ohio over Miami (OH) and Indiana. Offensive lineman Matt Britain and safety Hilton Dawson went with the Bobcats over Ole Miss from the SEC... <Read More>

Ohio downs Miami 38-29

Ohio scored 31 second-half points in a 38-29 win over Miami at Peden Stadium Saturday afternoon. Facing a 17-7 halftime deficit, the Bobcats (6-6, 4-4 MAC) scored on the opening posession of the second half with a Brad Bower 2-yard plunge. After a Taj Henley interception, Ohio took the lead on a Kalvin McRae 1-yard run. The 'Cats then wasted no time in turning a Michael Brown interception into points. Bower connected with Andrew Mooney on a 17-yard TD strike. In just 6:02 of third quarter play, Ohio had put up 21 points.

Miami (6-6, 5-2) cut the Ohio lead to 28-26 with 7:23 to play before Josh Abrams turned in the key play of the game. He returned a kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown to put the Bobcats up 35-26. Miami returned the ensuing... <Read More>
